Buying test instruments for your business: GST invoice and input credit

Why a proper GST tax invoice matters when your company buys test and measurement instruments, and what to give the seller.

If your company is registered for GST, the invoice you receive for an instrument purchase matters. It is the document your accountant uses to account for the tax on the purchase.

What to give the seller

  • Your company name exactly as registered.
  • Your GSTIN.
  • The delivery address and the billing address if they differ.

What you should receive

A GST tax invoice showing the seller's GSTIN, your GSTIN, HSN code, the taxable value and the tax split. For deliveries within West Bengal the tax shows as CGST and SGST. For other states it shows as IGST. OhmKart issues a GST tax invoice with every order, and the price you see on the site already includes 18% GST.

Ask your accountant

Whether and how much input tax credit your business can claim depends on your circumstances. Check with your accountant before you rely on it.
