True RMS
If you measure anything other than a clean sine wave, such as drives, LED drivers or computer supplies, choose a True RMS meter. A cheaper average-responding meter reads wrongly on distorted waveforms.

Check the safety category
A meter meant for a distribution board needs a higher CAT rating than one for electronics benches. Use a meter rated for where you work.

Counts and ranging
Auto-ranging is quicker to use. More counts give finer resolution, which matters for low-voltage electronics work.
